Shem Klein has been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2022. This was after he worked in Substance Use Disorder Treatment centers for over 15 years.
Shem’s career has been consistently about working towards healing for those suffering from Substance Use Disorders. He has been embedded within the worlds of recovery, treatment and therapy to help ease suffering and provide meaning and purpose to those impacted. He values working with individuals, couples, families and the communities they are a part of. Shem works to find ways to engage deeply with others through therapeutic and creative processes. While working in multiple treatment centers in Marin and San Francisco he was facilitating process groups, lectures, expressive arts groups, psychodrama/empty chair work, family sessions as well as extensive individual work all in service of recovery. He has assumed numerous leadership and clinical roles in the treatment centers he has been part of. He believes that treating the individual has to be done in ways that inform and honor the systems that they exist within. In the last few years his work has been more dedicated to private practice working with individuals at all points in their own recovery process. Whether this is someone questioning their own substance use and motivation towards change, or those seeking support around trauma, attachment, or family dynamics that are impacting their abilities to engage in the support they need. Shem is fascinated and appreciates the complexity of this work, meeting people where they are at and helping to walk with them through the intersection of mental health, stage of life changes, or unresolved or unintegrated trauma. Shem is committed to working with you to find a deeper sense of self and to living a more engaged life. Please feel free to call and to start a conversation.
